Addenda:
[Original release in US September 1966, BELL 648]

[Upon checking with original US release, BELL 648, side B songwriter Spooner Oldham appears here incorrectly as Greene, on SS 547. This would refer to Marlin Greene, who definitely wrote songs with Dan Penn, but not side B.]

  • This song is killer. Will always be killer too. I say this because it is so original/ out-of-the-box. The dude on the xylophone takes off on a solo that pierces the ears with power and purity. For me , this song is one those Motown Era songs that I never would have thought would be as rare and precious as I now am starting to realize. I don't know any other songs by these guys. Frankly, I wasn't even sure of their names until a few moments ago. What really sucks is that the radio stations that played songs such as this one are all fading or have faded away quietly, without regard. Don't let this brilliant, meaningful musical artwork ever die. I am so grateful for all the many, many times that this stuff has made me sing or dance or smile or go superstar and do all three regardless of when and where... And I'm holding onto the promise that this stuff will lift somebody's spirt down the line the way it has done for me and countless others. It's wholesome goodness and it's truth are beyond comparison or contention
