  • I'd say it bridges the gap between the more aggressive mid-60s British bands like The Who, and the early sound of West Coast bands like The Great Society and Jefferson Airplane. It's not hugely psychedelic, but a lot of the earlier "psych" bands didn't sound so trippy at first anyway, and the bands on here do take any "UK beat era" influences to another level. Some of the keyboard sounds would fit right in with "A Saucerful Of Secrets"-era psychedelia - particularly on perhaps the album's most well-known track "Liar, Liar" (known to many from the film "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels").Perhaps a useful comparison could be with Blue Cheer's "Vincebus Eruptum", which is sometimes called "the first heavy metal album", but it doesn't really sound that much like what we would have called true heavy metal a few years later - but some sounds of the earliest hard rock/heavy metal are definitely there, even if they really only sounded like a much messier version of Cream or Hendrix :)
